HANDBAG LABEL DESTI SAINT MAKES ITS DEBUT AT TAKASHIMAYA

SINGAPORE, 1st March 2010: Desti Saint's outstanding spring/summer collection of handbags will be on sale exclusively at top Singaporean department store Takashimaya from Monday 1st March. The hip label beat off stiff competition to be only one of two new handbag brands accepted by the store for the first six months of this year.

QUOTE FROM DESTI "It is very difficult to tap into a prestigious store like Takashimaya so I'm very honoured and excited that they wanted to feature my latest collection," said the brand's founder and designer Desti Saint.

Saint's desirable handbags are much sought after by fashion-conscious women who value quality and originality but don't wish to pay stratospheric prices for the privilege. She focuses on the use of luxurious materials to create unique handbags that are comfortable to wear, practical to use and beautiful to look at.

Her latest collection, which includes leather-on-linen hobos in several sizes, faux python bucket bags and envelope-style clutches, has been designed with the busy but stylish woman in mind and functions brilliantly for both day and evening occasions. Most styles come in classic colours, such as black and stone, but Saint has also incorporated striking shades of blue, red and pink for anyone wanting to make a real statement. Minimal but arresting details such as the top-quality nickel badge in the shape of the Chinese character for "happiness", eye-catching trim and luxuriant tassels give the bags a distinctive edge.

QUOTE FROM DESTI: "I design bags that I would like to own and know my friends will love," says Saint. "They have to be practical but at the same time I want to create something desirable and utterly irresistible."

BACKGROUND INFORMATION New Zealand-born Desti Saint has lived in Asia for 17 years and has a background in finance, building new businesses. She was a distributor for a global handbag brand before setting up her own company to design, make and sell her unique creations. The label Desti Saint was registered in Singapore on 1st January 2010 and is currently available in select boutiques across Singapore as well as in Takashimaya.

Simply dee-licious

Hong Kong label Dee is known for its cute little bags with a Chinese touch. And Ingot, its latest line in suede and leather, is no different. Available in summery tones of vibrant purple, sundown orange and lime green as well as the staple colors of brown and black, it is inspired by designer Desti Saint's love of Hong Kong and the mainland. Each handbag carries a brass ingot, an 8cm metal piece inscribed with the character for double happiness.

Said Saint: "When designing a handbag I start with the eye-catcher - in this case it is the brass ingot, hence the name for the collection - and then design the bag around this feature."

The 30cm bag retails at HK$1,550 and the 40cm at HK$1,750.

Where to buy: Shop online at www.dee.asia or go to Mandarin Orange, Unit 3C, 3/F, Grand Progress Building, 15-16 Lan Kwai Fong, Central. Tel: 2525-8275.
